ABOUT

The William G. Ericson Foundation, a California nonprofit public benefit corporation was incorporated in 2017. Its purpose is to further photographic art education.

The Foundation, in partnership with the Pasadena City College (“PCC”) Foundation, sponsors photographic art competitions at PCC and public high schools in the Pasadena City College District Area to provide awards to meritorious participants. These awards are in the form of scholarships for the study of photographic art.

The Foundation has published the collected photographic works of William “Bill” Ericson and has had those works printed in a book titled WILLIAM ERICSON PHOTOGRAPHY - A RETROSPECTIVE. The images, curated by Ericson are presented in this book in various categories: Places; People; Things; Abstracts; and Commercial Photography.

Almost all the photographs in this book were shot and printed by Ericson before the introduction of digital photography. He personally photo scanned his original prints for this book. His original in-progress cataloging system is preserved with his title or a file number to correspond with each image. He did not have the opportunity to title all the photos in this book.

After graduating from South Pasadena High School, Ericson earned an A.A. from Pasadena City College. He graduated with a B.A. in photography from University of California, Berkley. He went on to become a professional photographer creating iconic images for the motion picture and advertising industries. With his family he owned and published the South Pasadena Review, a weekly community newspaper, and The Quarterly Magazine, an upscale lifestyle magazine in the San Gabriel Valley featuring his photographs.

Ericson (August 13, 1944 - August 5, 2017) was raised in a publishing family and spent his life in the business. His true passion and profession, however, was photography. He considered himself a photographer above all else. He carried lessons from his parents about the meaning of community. The Foundation is evidence of these lessons.
